IRELAND PEOPLE

Health & Safety at the heart of our business

Lisa Hughes HSEQ Manager looks after the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers and contractors in Ireland.

Her award-winning approach ensured that during the Covid-19 pandemic, new protocol and associated training was communicated within a matter of hours to 3,000+ people.

Journey into Health & Safety

Lisa has over 25 years’ experience in facilities management, and 20 years within Health & Safety across the ISS business. She is the driving force behind the HSEQ Management Systems supporting ISS in Ireland and ensuring compliance with international ISO standards.

She began her ISS journey as a Frontline Operative in 2001 having transferred to ISS Ireland through a customer contract. Her HSEQ guidance and support sees her manage the HSEQ Team, its agenda and strategic initiatives.

“Managing the health and safety of around 3,000 employees is not just a job, but a vocation. The safety of our teams and customers is something I’m personally vested in and something I truly believe that we have the power to impact and make a difference.”

Communication is key to our success

Health and Safety is about preparation; being prepared for every eventuality means we can safeguard the continuity of our business and safety of everyone in everything they do every time they do it. When the full extent of the global Covid pandemic struck, Lisa reviewed the existing business continuity plans, escalation plans, infection control and all relevant processes and procedures to ensure our employees were kept safe whilst working on our own and customer sites.

“Communication is the key to success of our HSEQ agenda. We have a number of channels to keep our people up to date – from our monthly news updates, through to our dedicated employee platform, myISS; I personally feel information, at times, is still best coming from the horses’ mouth! So we have monthly HSEQ calls to ensure we can communicate with our people and placemakers directly.”

Managing the health and Safety of around 3,000 employees is not just a job, but a vocation.
